Wayne Wallace Bio
Wayne Wallace is a professor of jazz studies and trombone at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. He is a seven-time Grammy nominee, known for his unique blend of African American and Latin music. Wallace has received significant praise, evident from his placements in the DownBeat Critics Poll for both trombone performance and production. He is also a skilled arranger, educator, and composer with experience in film and television, and has received grants from various prestigious organizations.
Wallace has collaborated with many famous artists in the Afro-Latin and jazz genres, which has enriched his musical style. Growing up in San Francisco, he was influenced by various music genres, shaping his career. He has studied Afro-Latin music and jazz in Cuba, New York City, and Puerto Rico.
In addition to teaching at several universities, Wallace is known for his lectures and workshops in the Americas and Europe. He runs Patois Records, which aims to highlight the multi-lingual styles of the Bay Area’s music scene. Recently, he released the album “Latin Jazz-Jazz Latin” and also created “Salsa De La Bahía”, celebrating the region’s salsa and Latin jazz heritage. Wallace endorses Conn-Selmer trombones.
