Humberto Ramirez Bio

Humberto Ramírez is well-known among Latin Jazz fans for his exceptional trumpet skills and leadership in his innovative group. He has made significant contributions to tropical Latin dance music as an arranger, composer, and producer, working with famous artists like Willie Rosario, Tony Vega, Marc Anthony, and others. His unique style blends various musical genres.

Growing up in a musically rich environment, Humberto was inspired by legends like Tito Puente and Miles Davis. He began playing the flugelhorn at age 11 and was performing professionally by 14. After graduating from Escuela Libre de Música, he studied at Berklee College of Music, obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Jazz Composition. Humberto worked with Willie Rosario and became musical director for Tony Vega and Olga Tañón later, establishing himself as a leading producer and composer.

In 1992, he released his first project as a leader. He has recorded with many Jazz greats and received attention from major music publications. He founded his own record label, Nilpo Music, and initiated popular events like Big Band Mondays and the Puerto Rico Jazz Jam festival. Humberto has four Grammy nominations, winning one in 2000, and has performed for Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama. His music represents the essence of Latin Jazz, reflecting its roots and future.
