Wayne Wallace Bio
Wayne Wallace is a five-time Grammy nominee and a respected figure in African American-Latin music. He blends traditional styles with modern sounds and has been recognized in the Downbeat Critics Polls for his trombone playing and production. As an accomplished arranger, educator, and composer, he has created music for film and television and received various grants to support his work.
Born on May 29, 1952, in San Francisco, California, Wayne grew up surrounded by Blues, Country, and Jazz, which influenced his musical career. He has studied Afro-Latin music and Jazz through trips to Cuba, New York, and Puerto Rico and has performed with many renowned artists in these genres.
Wayne is also a respected instructor, teaching at the University of Indiana and other institutions. He leads his own label, Patois Records, which showcases the diverse music of the San Francisco Bay Area. The label has released 17 acclaimed recordings featuring various artists. Wayne is an endorsee of Conn-Selmer trombones.
