Bobby Rodriguez Bio

Dr. Bobby Rodriguez, a Grammy-nominated trumpeter from East Los Angeles, is known for his dynamic performances, compositions, and dedication to music education. He started studying trumpet at age ten and served in the US Army before pursuing higher education. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in 1998, Master’s in 2001, and Doctorate in 2006. Rodriguez inspires young people with his mantra, “If Dr. Bobby can do it, so can you,” and currently teaches at UCLA, UC Irvine, and Pasadena City College.

Active in his community, he serves on various boards and has played with renowned musicians like Quincy Jones and Ray Charles. In 2008, he will release a book titled “Trumpet Talk” on jazz improvisation, following the success of his first book, “ABC’s of LatinJazz. ” His latest CD, “Celebration,” features original works and covers. Rodriguez has received multiple awards, including Los Angeles New Times Salsa/Tropical Artist of the Year, and has produced several recordings, earning a gold and three platinum records.
