Jose “Joe” Gallardo, born on September 22, 1939, in Corpus Christi, Texas, is an American jazz musician and composer. He wrote the song “Amanecer” for Mongo Santamaria’s album, which won the Grammy Award for Best Latin Recording in 1978. Since the late 1970s, he has been living and working in Germany. In 2008, he was honored with an induction into the South Texas Music Walk of Fame. Gallardo developed a passion for Latin Jazz, despite not being immersed in it all his life.

Gallardo began playing the piano at age six and the trombone at 14, later pursuing music at Del Mar Jr. College and the University of Corpus Christi. His career includes performances with renowned jazz and Latin orchestras, such as those led by Luis Arcaraz and Stan Kenton, and backing famous artists like Sammy Davis Jr. and Tony Bennett.
