Oscar Hernández Bio

Oscar Hernández is a celebrated pianist and arranger, recognized for his contributions to Latin, Latin-jazz, and salsa music over a career of more than 40 years. He leads the famous Spanish Harlem Orchestra (SHO), which has released seven albums, winning three Grammy Awards and receiving nominations for others. Their recent album, “Salsa Navidad,” is their first Christmas album and has received positive reviews.

Hernández began his professional career in the 1970s, working with notable artists like Ismael Miranda, Ray Barreto, and Celia Cruz. He played a key role in the Rubén Blades Band, helping to shape its musical direction. As a sought-after musician, he has produced work for well-known artists such as Willie Colón and Paul Simon. He has also served as a musical director and arranger for various shows and musicals, including Paul Simon’s “The Capeman. ”

In addition to his work with SHO, Hernández has released two solo albums and composed music for film documentaries. He has also arranged music for Gloria Estefan’s Broadway musical, “On Your Feet,” and continues to be a leading figure in the music industry.
