Alex Pope Norris Bio
Alexander Pope Norris was born in Columbia, Maryland, and began studying music at 9. He received a scholarship to the Peabody Conservatory of Music, graduating in 1990, and performed at the Rumba Club. In 1992, he moved to New York City to grow as a jazz trumpeter, working with groups like the Village Vanguard Jazz Orchestra and becoming musical director for Betty Carter’s Jazz Ahead in 1998. Norris has a master’s degree from the Manhattan School of Music and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Miami. He teaches at the Peabody Conservatory and performs globally while also recording music.
